Jape Wins Choice Music PrizePosted: 05.03.2009
Jape was announced as the winner of the Choice Music Prize at the awards last night in Vicar Street. Jape’s fantastic album Ritual was declared as Irish Album of the Year 2008, and the band received a cheque for €10,000 – which was funded by the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and the Irish Recorded Music Association (IMRA). The event was hosted by Today FM’s Alison Curtis and was broadcast live on the radio station.
The full shortlist of nominated albums was as follows (albums in alphabetical order):

R.S.A.G. “Organic Sampler” (Psychonavigation)
The Script “The Script” (Sony Music)
Six of the ten shortlisted acts gave a live performance at the event – Jape, Fight Like Apes, Halfset, Mick Flannery, Messiah J and the Expert and R.S.A.G.
When asked by inkywrists about his feeling on the win, Ritchie Egan (aka Jape) said: “It feels good, but in a transitory type of way! Like a passing fancy!”.
