Q & A with DistractorsPosted: 18.10.2009
We caught up with the Distractors for a wee chat. The band were playing in this years HWCH festival. Check out their myspace for a listen! Photo by Hazel Fitzpatrick.
Hi Distractors! Tell us a bit about your band and how you got together?
Four of us are originally from Dublin, Andy our bass player was born in Australia but moved over here when he was 12, I think cos he was partial to sunburn, I’m sure he regrets it now! We got together around 3 years ago, we knew each other previously, myself and Ciaran (our guitarist) played in bands together before, there have been a couple of changes in personel but in its current format we have been going for around a year and a half and dont forsee anymore changes….
How did you come up with the band’s name?
It came from a misunderstanding between two of the members…I said extractor fan, he thought i said Distractor fan…the rest is muddled up history!
Who was your favourite band you saw in HWCH this weekend?
To be honest I didnt catch as many of the bands as i would have liked….I really like Funeral Suits at the moment so i might try and catch them tonight.Villagers on Friday and Fionn Regan in the Button Factory last night were my highlights.
What’s the plan for the upcoming year?
We are currently recording our debut album, hopefully for release in February/March of next year.Look out for a single from that at the end of November called ‘Emergency’.
What has been the best gig you’ve played to date?
We have been pretty lucky to play some big gigs,we played Oxegen this year for the first time and toured with The Charlatans which was great cos we were fans…my personal favourite would have to be supporting Tokyo Police Club in Whelans, there was a bit of magic in the air that night.
If you could pick any famous person to play in your band who would it be?
Good question…and I think it would have to be Will Ferrell,ye can never have enough Cow Bell!
