Icarus 60th Anniversary CollectionPosted: 03.04.2010
We’ve been a bit late off the mark in doing a post about the launch of the Icarus 60th Anniversary Issue (it was on Thursday) in the Irish Writer’s Centre, to celebrate sixty years of Trinity College’s literary magazine. The launch itself was packed with poets and writers, and the collection was introduced by poet Gerald Dawe, along with a reading by Brendan Kennelly. The collection itself read like a who’s who of modern Irish writing – the writing spanned six decades from the 1950s to the present day and included pieces by Louis MacNeice, Sean O’Casey, Michael Longley, Derek Mahon, Eavan Boland, John Montague, Frank O’Connor, Paul Durcan, Seamus Deane, Neil Jordan….I actually have to stop, because the list is so long and I’m only mid-way through the 1970s. Suffice it to say, there are a LOT of well known writers associated with Icarus. The anniversary collection has attracted quite a bit of interest, you can read a far more comprehensive article about the magazine here.
