Flat Lake Festival

We’ve been trying to get to the Flat Lake Festival since it started. Last year, we were both in the middle of finishing college work, the year before that, a personal disaster of epic proportions. This year, we’re hoping to finally reach the holy grail, and somehow make our way down to Monaghan for the first weekend of June. A festival run by Kevin Allen and Pat Mc Cabe has to be worth visiting – we’ve had a slightly terrified fascination with the author ever since we read Winterwood – which left us unable to view My Little Ponies or chocolate bar wrappers in the same way again. We actually managed to see Mc Cabe in action at last year’s festival launch party in the Odessa Club, when he put on a performance of Radio Butty, but we were too awed to speak to him in person. Judging by the hyperbolic accounts of the weekend by everyone who’s been to the Flat Lake Festival, it’s certainly well worth checking out.
