Sleigh BellsPosted: 15.02.2011
Sleigh Bells were playing in London last night, and since we’ve spent far too long listening to their debut album over the past year, we thought we’d seize the chance to see what they sounded like live. Although the evening started out badly, with the bouncers at the door refusing to allow me to bring in my camera, an inspired performance by one of the support acts, MEN, more than made up for it. Sleigh Bells’ set was incredibly energetic, but was over fairly quickly, as they stuck to playing the songs from their album, with the exception of a single cover. Still the duo had an impressive stage presence, with Alexis Krauss leaping about the stage in a particularly shiny pair of patent leather trousers, exuding enough attitude to push the crowd into a singing frenzy during “Crown on the Ground.” Just don’t judge the gig by the disgustingly grainy photograph above, which was taken on my Blackberry. It doesn’t do it justice.
