The King’s Speech

We were both really excited to see The King’s Speech as it featured two of our favourite things;Edward VIII (he was the pioneer of intarsia sweater vests and Cairn Terrier lover, what more can we say?!) and Helen Bonham Carter. Considering the hype over this new release we were confident that this film would please and we weren’t disappointed. The story follows Bertie aka King George VI played by Colin Firth and his struggle with public speaking. As a last resort, a resigned Bertie tries out the unorthodox practices of speech therapist Lionel (Geoffrey Rush) and thus an unlikely friendship unfurls and the newly appointed King finds himself overcoming some of his hardest hurdles. A wonderfully gentle paced and visually stunning film that once again shows us that Firth is capable of great things.
